Data Ingestion Settings

  • PDF

Article summary

In the Settings ► Ingestion page, an administrator can choose which metrics are ingested, and how metrics are ingested and displayed, in Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance (formerly Skylight performance analytics).

Enabling a metric allows its data to be consumed and persisted in Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance.

Data is ingested from various datasources. Metrics are configured per datasource.

Tip: To help cut through the noise and focus on what’s relevant for your business, choose the metrics from sources that you want to use and leave the rest in the database. Metrics will not be removed based on your visualization preferences.

For example:

If you are only running TWAMP tests, do not select metrics from DMM that you won’t have to avoid clutter in your metric selection menus.
If the P95 delay is of high importance, you may opt to refrain from selecting the other percentiles.

Configure Ingestion Settings

The left side panel displays a list of vendors (for example, Accedian TWAMP ) and their associated datasources (for example, TWAMP (SF)).

The following features are available:

  • Direction aliases: Click to set up direction aliases. For more information, see Set Up Direction Aliases.
  • Custom metric: Click to create a custom metric.
  • Enabled only: Toggle on to display only the enabled metrics.
  • Sessions are automatically discovered: Select this drop-down option to detect and create new sessions when they occur in the ingested data of enabled metrics for the first time. Pre-provisioned sessions will also be ingested.
  • Sessions must be pre-provisioned: Select this drop-down option to drop metrics that are reported by an unknown session. The application will only ingest sessions that have already been provisioned.
  • Data continuity: Toggle on to detect changes to the session ID or display name and trigger a session update.
  • Use the toggle on the left to enable or disable a metric.
  • Click on a metric to set its Decimal count, which defines the number of decimals displayed on widgets.

Data Ingestion in Practice

Anywhere you see a selection for metrics, the only metrics you'll see on the list are the ones enabled in your ingestion settings. For example:

  • When creating dashboard cards
  • When adding series to an object or comparison view
  • When defining reports

CAUTION: Modifying the ingestion dictionary may require changes on dashboards, reports provisioned, alert policy provisioned, and analysis templates.

When you are looking to select a metric for a visualization and cannot find it, we recommend to check the data ingestion settings.
