This article introduces the Sessions page and explains the information displayed in the list of existing sessions when you open the page.
In the Sessions page, you can:
- View a list and dashboard of all existing sessions and check their status
- Filter the list of existing sessions based on various search criteria including user-defined labels
- View and edit detailed information about a session View the graph associated with a session
- Export a list of existing sessions to a CSV file Export a specific session to a CSV file
- Add new sessions Edit existing sessions
- Delete existing sessions
- Start and stop existing sessions.
Note: Text summaries have replaced pie charts as of Skylight orchestrator 23.12.
To view the list and dashboard of existing sessions
From the main menu, select Sessions.
A list of all currently-defined sessions is displayed. Their dashboard is displayed on the bottom of the page, providing you with a high-level statistical view of the sessions. To toggle the dashboard on or off, click above the list.
Note: This option is unavailable in release 23.12 and later.Check the Status column to see which sessions are currently running and which are stopped.
To interpret the information displayed for each session, see the table after these procedures.
To display additional columns (or remove columns from the list):
- Right-click anywhere in the headings at the top of the columns. A context menu is displayed.
- Slide the cursor down the menu to Columns to view the full list of columns that can be displayed.
- Check any columns you want to view. Uncheck any columns that you do not want to view.
To filter the list of existing sessions
Access the Sessions page.
Click the Edit filters button (above the list). The Search filters dialog displays.
Complete the fields on which you want to filter the session list.
Click the Apply button. The filtered list of sessions displays.
To clear the filter, click the Clear button (to the right of the search bar).
To view and edit detailed information about a session
You can view details about a session (including live metrics as they are collected) in the Sessions page.
Access the Sessions page.
Click anywhere in the row for the session you want to view.
Details about the session are displayed to the right of the session list.The unit selection in the Sessions detail form (microseconds versus milliseconds) is also applied to the time chart. If you do not see the session details, scroll to the far right.
If the Status of a session is Stopped, you can edit it by selecting the Edit button.
You can also click on an area containing parameters you want to edit and the area becomes available for editing.
For more information about editing a session, see "Adding, Editing and Duplicating Performance Sessions".Click the Close button to remove the session details.
To view the graph associated with a session
Note: This option is unavailable in release 23.12 and later.
Access the Sessions page.
Click the row of the session whose graph you want to view.
Above the list, click . The graph displays at the bottom of the page.
Note: For supported session types, select the Round trip tab in session details panel if the Round trip delay checkbox is enabled in Step 3 of Adding, Editing and Duplicating Performance Sessions and update the graph based on new round-trip metrics.
To view a specific point in time, move your cursor over the graph. You can also select a time range by selecting a portion of the graph.
You have the following options:

Refresh the graph | Click on the top right of the graph. |
View the graph on a full screen | Click on the top right of the graph. |
Pick a time range for the graph | Click Time on the top right of the graph. In the dialogue that displays, select the filter you require. |
Apply a previously- defined filter to the graph | Click Filters on the top of the graph. From the drop-down list, select the filter you require. |
Create a filter and apply it to the graph | Click on the top right of the graph. In the dialog that displays, enter your filter criteria, and then click the Apply button. |
Export the statistics of the graph to a CSV file | Click on the top right of the graph. The file downloads. Save the file using the name and location you require. |
To export the list of sessions to a CSV file
Access the Sessions page.
Click (to the right of the search bar). The file downloads.
Save the file using the name and location you wish.
To export a specific session to a CSV file
Access the Sessions page.
Click the row of the session you want to export.
Click on the top right of the graph.
The file downloads.
Save the file using the name and location you require.
Sessions page – Information displayed for each session
Column | Description |
---|---|
Name | Name of the session. |
Type | The type of session. These are the possible session types (and the layer on which they take place):

Status | The current status of the session. The possible values of status are:
|
Description | Description of the session. |
Start | Start date and time of the session. |
Stop | Stop date and time of the session. |
Labels | User-defined labels associated with the session. Users can associate multiple labels with a session when they create or edit the session. You can filter the session list by clicking in the search bar (above the list) and entering labels in the search dialog that pops up. |
Error message | Error message associated to the session. |
Interval | The interval over which packets are collected and for which performance metrics are calculated for the session. A value in seconds. |
Sender | The name of the device that generates the packets for the session, sends them to the reflector and receives them back from the reflector. |
Sender interface | Interface name and IP address sending information. |
Sender IP | The identification of the port. |
Sender port | The port sending the information. |
Sender MAC | The MAC address sending the information. |
Reflector | The name of the device that receives packets from the sender and reflects them back. |
Reflector interface | A network device used in performance sessions to reflect the packets in a measurement stream. |
Reflector IP | The IP assigned to this reflector. |
Reflector port | The port number currently assigned to this reflector. To change the assigned port, enter a new value here, then click Apply. |
Reflector MAC | The MAC address of the reflector. |
MEG level | The MEG level of the reflector: Frames with the MEG level equal to this setting are reflected. Frames with the MEG level higher than this setting are forwarded. Range: All, 0-7 Note: When All is selected, all frames are reflected. |
Packets/s | Rate at which packets are transmitted for the session. A value in packets per second. |
Round trip delay | Shows whether Round trip delay is enabled or disabled. |
Reflector time subtraction | Shows whether Reflector time subtraction is enabled or disabled. |
Payload size | The size of the payload. |
TOS | Type of Service (TOS) for the session. |
DSCP | Differentiated Services Code Point. |
TTL | TTL (Time-To-Live) for the session. |
VLAN priority | Sets the VLAN priority to use when transmitting TWAMPControl messages. The default VLAN priority is 0. |
Sync status | The status of the synchronization. |
Collecting status | The status of the collection. |
Last update time | The time of the last update to the session. |
Last update status | The status, such as COMPLETED, of the last update. |
Last update message | The message, such as Success, of the last update. |
Creation date | The date the session was created. |
Pinned | The option to pin the session is displayed. |
The text summary at the bottom of the page shows high-level statistical information on status of sessions in percentages. | |
The text summary at the bottom of the page shows high-level statistical information on collecting of sessions in percentages. | |
The text summary at the bottom of the page shows high-level statistical information on sync data of sessions in percentages. | |
The fourth text summary is driven by the current sort column selected. For the example of the text summary shown here, we are sorting the Packets/s (pps) column. You can filter by clicking on a specific segment of this text summary. This enables you to display only the information, or filter, you want to see. Supported sort columns for this text summary:

When viewing a list of multiple managed devices, this button toggles the dashboard on and off. When viewing one specific managed device in the list, this button toggles the graph on and off. Note: This option is unavailable in release 23.12 and later. |
