Setting Up SyncE

  • PDF

Article summary

The synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) feature can be used to synchronize Ant2, Nano2 Copper and Nano2 Optical over Ethernet networks. SyncE takes the clock signal from the selected clock reference port and transmits it to all other ports.

Notes:
SyncE is not supported on Sensor Module 10G.

SyncE can be enabled on Nano2 copper in SGMII mode but the host must configure the mastership that matches the ESMC clock selection. Otherwise, SyncE will not function.

▶ To set SyncE

  1. Access the page System ▶ Configuration ▶ Time ▶ SYNCE.

  2. Select Enable SyncE.

  3. Select a Manual clock source or enable ESMC QL (automatic clock source selection using ESMC), then click Apply.

Note: SyncE settings can be edited from the Clock List by selecting a Clock name.

CAUTION: Configuring the clock-source is setting the Mastership mode (for the copper ports). If two ports connected together are both "Force to Master" or both "Force to Slave"a "port-down" will occur. If the NNI port is down after port configuration, there is a rollback mechanism to revert to the previous valid configuration.

For more information on specific parameters, refer to the following table.

SyncE (System ▶ Configuration ▶ Time ▶ SyncE)

ParameterDescription
Enable SyncEEnables or disables the synchronous Ethernet feature.
  • When disabled, the clock slave will be selected automatically depending on the port status and the copper ports Mastership Mode (visible under Port ▶ Configuration) will show Auto.

Note: This is for copper only and not applicable to fiber.

    • When enabled, SyncE will affect copper ports Mastership Mode. If the port is copper and set as the receiving primary clocksource, the Mastership mode will show Forced to Slave. On theopposite port (if it is a copper port), the Mastership mode willshow Forced to Master. When Enabled, the clock reference port (s) operate as clock slave(s) and all the other ports on the system operate as masters, transmitting clock signal from clock reference port.
  • SyncE/ESMC statusThis reports the status of the SyncE/ESMC, such as:
    • Clock selector
    • UNI and NNI clock status
    • Clock selection change count
    • Current QL state
For more information see ESMC Port Statistics.

    Option

    ParameterDescription
Manual clock sourceThis sets the clock selector to use a specific clock source, either the UNI or the NNI port, when SyncE is Enabled.
ESMC QL modeEnables the automatic clock source selection using ESMC.

    Viewing SyncE/ESMC Statistics

SyncE/ESMC statistics can be viewed by accessing the SyncE/ESMC statistics page.

    ▶ To view SyncE/ESMC statistics

    1. Access the page System ▶ Configuration ▶ Time ▶ Clock Name ▶ SyncE/ESMC port statistics summary ▶ Port Name.

The SyncE/ESMC statistics page is displayed.

For more information on specific parameters, refer to the following section.
