Setting Up an SNMP Trap Configuration Job

  • PDF

Article summary

In addition to configuring the SNMP agent on managed elements (Sensors), as explained in "Setting Up an SNMP Agent Configuration Job", managed elements must be configured to send their SNMP trap messages to another system known as the SNMP trap receiver.

By default, Legacy orchestrator is a trap receiver for all managed elements (see "Using Legacy orchestrator as Default SNMP Receiver for All Elements"). However, if your organization has specific requirements, you can set up a configuration job to set up a trap receiver for managed elements as explained in this section.

This section explains how to set up a configuration job that will ensure that managed elements send their SNMP trap messages to the required destination.

Note: Legacy orchestrator must also be configured to receive SNMP messages from the elements that it manages. See "Configuring Alarm Handling via SNMP".

Procedure for Setting Up an SNMP Trap Receiver

To set up an SNMP traps configuration step

  1. Access the page Commission ▶ Jobs.

  2. Set all common configuration job settings, as described in "Creating Configuration Jobs in GUI Mode" or in "Creating Configuration Jobs Using Data Sets".

  3. Select SNMP traps in the left pane. The SNMP traps tab is displayed.

  4. If you chose to use an ME Reference set to specify which elements the job would be applied to, the Data set section is displayed. Complete the fields in the Data set section. For more information about how to complete the fields, see the table below

  5. Ensure the fields in the Trap receiver section are completed correctly so that Legacy orchestrator will receive the trap messages. For more information on SNMP trap parameters, see the table below.

  6. If required, set up additional trap receivers by clicking the Add PLUS BUTTON.png button or by selecting a row and clicking the Duplicate DUPLICATE BUTTON.png button. Supply values for the parameters for the trap receiver that you are adding.

  7. Click Apply, then Close.

  8. Click the Refresh REFRESH BUTTON.png button to refresh the user interface.
