Setting Up an SNMP Agent Configuration Job
You can use configuration jobs to set up managed element side of the SNMP connection between managed elements (Sensors) and Legacy orchestrator.
Legacy orchestrator must also be configured to receive SNMP messages from the elements that it manages. For an overview of how Legacy orchestrator manages alarm messaging by SNMP, see "Configuring Alarm Handling via SNMP".
Configuration Steps
Two configuration steps related to SNMP are available in the Configuration Job page:
SNMP agent - Enables an SNMP agent on a managed element. The SNMP agent will allow an element to send SNMP trap messages related to alarms and other events to Legacy orchestrator (and other systems if necessary). This section explains how to complete the SNMP agent step. See "Procedure for Setting Up the SNMP Agent" below.
SNMP trap receiver - Sets up the connection to the system(s) that will receive SNMP trap messages from the elements. By default, Legacy orchestrator is a trap receiver for all managed elements. See "Using Legacy orchestrator as Default SNMP Receiver for All Elements". However, if your organization has specific requirements, you can set up a configuration job to set up a trap receiver for managed elements. See "Setting Up an SNMP Trap Configuration Job".

General
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Enable SNMP agent | Enables the SNMP agent. |
Use host name as system name | Uses the element's host name as system name in outgoing messages. |
SNMP system name | The name to identify the element in SNMP messages. By convention, this is the element's fully qualified domain name. |
System location | Physical location of the element. |
UDP port | UDP port that the SNMP agent uses for all IPv4 interfaces. Note: Changing this value restarts the SNMP agent. |
Contact information | Contact information for the element (typically an email address). |
Read-only community | The community string to control read-only access to the element. |
Enable authentication trap generation | Enables the element to generate a trap when authentication to the agent fails. |
Read-write community | The community string to control read/write access to the element. |
Enable link trap generation | Enables trap generation when link status changes. Map to the generic traps 2 (1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.3 linkDown) and 3 (1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.4 linkUp). |
