Changing the Default Console Password

This article explains how to change the password of the visionems account in Skylight orchestrator. This procedure is highly recommended.

It is important to not lose the password after it has been changed from the factory default.

Procedure Requirements

A. This procedure must be executed from the Skylight orchestrator console. Connect to the console via a remote SSH client (appliance IP address, port 2200).

B. This procedure must be executed as the visionems user. To execute this procedure, you must know the account’s credentials.

Procedure Steps

1. Log in to the Skylight orchestrator console as the visionems user.

2. At the Skylight prompt, access the OS-level shell of the appliance by entering:
   shell
   When prompted, enter the user ID and password for the visionems user.

3. To change the password, enter:
   sudo passwd visionems

4. When prompted for the current visionems password, enter the default password of the visionems account.

5. When prompted for a new password, enter the new password that you want to set for the visionems account.

6. When prompted to enter the new password again, enter the new password again.
   The password is changed.

7. Exit the OS-level shell by entering:
   exit

You are returned to the Appliance Monitor command line. The Skylight prompt is displayed.
