Changing the skylight User Password

Prev Next

This article explains how to change the password of the skylight account in Legacy Orchestrator. This procedure is highly recommended.

It is important to not lose the password after it has been changed from the factory default.

Procedure Requirements

A. The skylight user account is managed by the operating system (Ubuntu or Red Hat). For this reason, you can change the skylight user's password using the OS passwd command. There are two methods available to perform this password change.

B. You must know the credentials for the skylight user or the root user; if not, a user with sudo privileges can also execute this procedure.

Procedure Steps

Method 1: Using the skylight Account

Use this method if you know the current password and have access to the Legacy Orchestrator CLI.

To change the skylight user password:

  1. Open an SSH terminal session to the Legacy Orchestrator CLI on port 2200.

  2. Log in as the skylight user.

  3. At the prompt, access the OS-level shell of the Legacy Orchestrator by entering:

shell host
  1. To change the password, enter:
passwd
  1. When prompted for the current skylight password, enter the default password of the skylight account.

  2. When prompted for a new password, enter the new password that you want to set for the skylight account.

  3. When prompted to enter the new password again, enter the new password again. You will receive a message confirming that the password was successfully updated.

  4. Exit the OS-level shell by entering:

exit

You are returned to the OS command line. The OS prompt is displayed.

Method 2: Using Account with Sudo Privileges or as the Root User

Use this method if you have administrative access or cannot log in as the skylight user.

To change the skylight user password:

  1. Open an SSH terminal session to the Docker host on port 22.
  2. Log in as the a user with sudo privileges or as the root user.
  3. To change the password, enter:
sudo passwd skylight
  1. When prompted for the current user with sudo privileges, enter that user’s password.
  2. When prompted for a new password, enter the new password that you want to set for the skylight account.
  3. When prompted to enter the new password again, enter the new password again. You will receive a message confirming that the password was successfully updated.

You are returned to the OS command line. The OS prompt is displayed.
