Overview
Add static mark lines to line charts for any metric on a dashboard. Mark lines help you see if metrics are within or outside your defined boundries.
This feature is available in the dashboard editor.
Adding a Mark Line
▶ To add a mark line
Click Monitoring in the left sidebar, and then select the dashboard to edit.
The dashboard editor appears.
Click Author in the upper-right corner.
Click Card.
The Card detail pane appears.
In Data, click the ellipsis (...) for the item that you want to a add mark line to, and then select Add mark line.
The Mark line window appears.
Click + Line , and then set a value, color, and label.
(Optional) Repeat this step to add multiple mark lines.
Tip: Select the Color background area checkbox to shade the area beyond the mark line. The shading follows the direction of the value, that is, upwards for values with a greater than sign (>) and downwards for values with a less than sign (<).
Click the checkmark icon in the upper-right corner to apply your changes and close the Mark line window.
The mark line appears on the line chart.
Example: Good vs. Bad
This image shows an example of how you can use mark lines:
As seen in this example, you can customize the mark line profiles with more than one line and more than one label.
Notes:
Toggling the background areas will toggle all mark lines for a metric; you can go into your editor and change whether or not you want your background area to be colored.
As a reminder, since mark lines are per metric, they are unavailable in the Timeseries Options Modal.
