About Configuration Flows

  • PDF

Article summary

Configuration flows provide network operators with a template-based approach to standardizing their workflows for commissioning and provisioning new devices (Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensors and Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Modules) and services on their network.

The three main components of configuration flows are templates, profiles and executors.

Configuration flow templates are the basic building blocks of configuration flows. A configuration flow template is essentially a configuration job that can accept flow tokens (variables) in parameter fields. A system administrator defines a variety of templates using standard values to define most parameters and flow tokens for parameters that require user input at execution time. See "Configuration Flow Templates: Overview"

Configuration flow profiles combine configuration flow templates. A system administrator creates a variety of configuration profiles for different workflows. Each profile defines the list of configuration templates that are required for a particular workflow. See "Configuration Flow Profiles: Overview".

Configuration flow executors apply a configuration profile to the network. When the people who operate and maintain the network need to apply a configuration flow profile to devices, they create a configuration flow executor. Creating an executor involves selecting a configuration flow profile and selecting the devices to which the profile should be applied. The operator must also enter values for parameters that were defined with flow tokens. Each configuration flow executor corresponds to a single execution of a particular profile on the network. See "Configuration Flow Executors: Overview".

Note: From release Legacy orchestrator 23.12 and later, the operator can use data sets to enter values for parameters that were defined with flow tokens and assign defined devices. See "Configuration Flow Executors using Data Set".
