Setting Up an NTP-PTP Configuration Job
The system date and time can be set automatically using either an NTP server or a PTP server. A unit can also act as an NTP server if you select the Enable NTP server option.
To set up an NTP-PTP configuration job
Access the page Commission ▶ Jobs.
Set all common configuration job settings, as described in "Creating Configuration Jobs in GUI Mode" and in "Creating Configuration Jobs Using Data Sets".
Select NTP-PTP in the left pane. The NTP-PTP tab is displayed.
Complete all fields in the NTP-PTP tab as required. For more information on specific parameters, see the table below.
Click Apply, then click Close.
Click the Refresh button to refresh the user interface.

Configuration
Parameter | Description |

Type | Select the type of automatic time source to be used on the device. Possible values: NTP, PTP or PTPv2. When you select a type, the relevant fields in the rest of the page are enabled. |
NTP configuration
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Enable NTP | Sets the system time automatically by polling an NTP server. Select a server from the list or add your own. |
High resolution sync | If this field is set to True, high-resolution hardware synchronization is enabled. In this mode, the NTP server is queried multiple times and the resulting time is derived from an averaging process based on a hardware clock. If this field is set to False, the NTP server is queried only every 30 minutes and the system time is set accordingly, without further processing. |
Time interval (s) | Sets the amount of time after which the unit synchronizes with the NTP server. Expressed in seconds. Valid range is 8 to 300 seconds. |
Number of messages | When using NTP, the number of synchronization messages exchanged with the NTP server during each time interval. Valid range is 5 to 60. |
Pri master address Sec master address | IP addresses of the primary and secondary NTP servers. |
Enable NTP server | Enables use of the NTP server service. The device becomes an NTP server and can be used by other devices as an NTP server. |
Clock name | Unique identifier of a clock. |
PTP configuration
Parameter | Description |
---|---|
Enable PTP | Sets the system time automatically by polling a PTP master. The unit uses the masters from the list according to the Precision Time Protocol. |
UTC offset for master enable | When using PTP, enable the use of UTC offset from the master clock. |
Pri master address Sec master address | The IP address of the primary PTP server. The IP address of the secondary PTP server. |
Pri domain number Sec domain number | When using PTP, the domain number of the primary and secondary PTP servers. |
Announce interval | When using PTP, the announce interval for unicast negotiation. The interval, expressed in seconds, is the base 2 logarithm of the Announce interval. For example, if -1 is selected, the announce interval is 0.5 seconds. Possible values are:

Sync interval | When using PTP, the synchronization interval for unicast negotiation. The interval, expressed in seconds, is the base 2 logarithm of the Sync Interval. For example, if -3 is selected, the announce interval is 0.125 seconds. Possible values are:

Priority settings
Parameter | Description |

DSCP | The priority for the DSCP (Differentiated Services Code Point ) can be set by selecting a value in the drop-down list. |
VLAN Priority | If the link is through a VLAN, the priority of the VLAN frames can be set in the VLAN priority bits. Possible values: 0 to 7 |

PTP profile | Default PTP profiles set by the administrator. PTP (IEEE1588-2008) introduced Profile, permitting a liberty on prerequisites, parameters, and algorithm to handle the synchronisation. Supported profiles:

Prio2 | A user configurable designation, which provides finer grained ordering among otherwise equivalent clocks. Acceptable values range from 0 to 255 |

Default Priority | The localPriority is assigned to a PTP port. This attribute is used when configuring the PTP port in the Telecom Profile ITU-T G.8275.1. Range: 1-255 |

Address | The layer-2 multicast destination address. Both the non-forwardable multicast address 01-80-C2-00-00-0E and the forwardable multicast address 01-1B-19-00-00-00 are supported. |
Interface | A name to identify the interface. Indicates the interface used to exchange the PTP messages. Default is Management. |
DiffServ Code Point | The DiffServ Code Point to set in the generated packets. Applies to Layer-3 traffic only. Expected length: 6 bits |
Priority Code Point | When using PTP, the priority of the VLAN frames can be set in the VLAN priority bits if the link is through a VLAN. Range: 0-7 |
Time to live | The Time To Live (TTL) is the limit on the number of hops a packet is allowed before it is dropped. Range: 1-255 |

Hostname / Address | Name or Address of the PTP master. |

Priority | The priority of PTP master. Acceptable values: 0 (disabled), 1 (best) and 2 (worst). |
