Managing Sensor Agents through the UI

Overview

The Sensors UI is a management tool for configuring both Sensor Agents (formerly Skylight sensor: agents) and their sessions.

View the Agents list by going to Sensors ► Agent.

From here, you can observe your inventory and the status of sensor agents. You can also:

  • Search and filter the list using the top bar above the table
  • Sort the list by selecting a header
  • Refresh the list by selecting the re-fetch icon in the top-right corner

Terminology

NameDescription
Sensor AgentContainerized microservice test agent capable of performing active testing.
SessionAlso known as monitored object. Building block and lowest level of the data model. Sensors and third parties report session data at this raw level.

Prerequisites

To view, create, edit, and delete Agent and session configurations, you must have the Admin or User permission level.

View Agents

To view Agents:

  1. Click Sensors on the left sidebar.
  2. Click the Agent tab.
    The list of Agents appear.
  3. Select an Agent.
    The right sidebar appears, displaying the Agent details and allowing you to view and edit its configuration.

The Summary sidebar view displays a list of attached sessions.

The context menu allows you to generate a secret for authentication and delete the Agent.

View sessions

To view sessions:

  1. Select an Agent from the list.
    This opens the Summary view in the sidebar with the list of sessions.

  1. Hover on a session in the list for actions that can be performed, such as:

    • Edit configuration
    • Delete Session
    • View Monitored Object details
    • Run a Start or Stop command against the Session

Configuring Agents

To create a new configuration:

  1. Click + on the top right.
    This opens the sidebar in the creation state.

  2. Enter the details.
    • Data collector server: a Sensor Collector’s gateway address that the Sensor Agent will use for streaming measurement metrics results.
    • Expand, enable, and fill out the reflector information for the Agent if required.
  3. Click to save the changes.
    Once submitted, the Agents list will update with the newly-created configuration.

To edit an existing configuration:

  1. Select the Agent in the table list.
  2. Select the Configuration tab.

  3. Make the necessary changes.
  4. Click to save the changes.

Configure Sessions

To create a new session:

  1. Click + from the Agent's Summary tab.

  2. In the New session modal, select the Session type:

    • TWAMP-SL (stateless)
    • TWAMP-SF (stateful)
    • Throughput
    • Echo ICMP
    • Echo UDP
    • Transfer
    • Path trace

  3. Click Session configuration.

  4. Configure the parameters.
    Note: The parameters vary depending on the selected session type.

  5. Click to save the changes.

To edit a session:

  1. Hover to select the session from the list in the Agent's sidebar.
  2. Click the pencil icon.

  3. Make the required changes.
  4. Click to save the changes.
