Enabling Telnet

This article explains how to enable Telnet on a remote terminal and display the Telnet server status. The Command Line Interface (CLI) can be used to configure Skylight Flex from a remote terminal using Telnet.

To enable Telnet

1. Execute the following command in Global Configuration mode:

Your Product# feature telnet
end

2. View the Telnet service status in Privileged EXEC Mode:

Your Product# show telnet server
telnet service enabled

To disable Telnet

1. Execute the following command in Global Configuration mode:

Your Product# no feature telnet
end

IMPORTANT: While connected via Telnet, the no feature telnet command is not functional. The command will return:

% Telnet feature cannot be disabled, as telnet session/s are active
% Failed to stop TELNET Service

However, it can be executed when SSH is connected.

2. View the Telnet service status in Privileged EXEC Mode:

Your Product#  show telnet server
telnet service disabled

The no form of this command disables the Telnet service. While connected via Telnet, the no form of this command is not functional.
