Skylight sensor: control SNMP Alarm Forwarding

Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Control can forward its alarm raise and alarm clear events as SNMP (v2 or v3) notification.

This article describes the structure of the MIB used in conjunction with these events.

MIB Structure

Sensor Control events are defined in the "ACD-ALM-MIB.mib" file. This MIB file defines two events that can be sent by Sensor Control, "acdAlarmActiveState" and "acdAlarmClearState".

acdAlarmActiveState

This is the SNMP trap that is generated when an alarm entry crosses its rising threshold and generates an event that is configured for sending SNMP traps. It contains the following bindings:

acdAlarmCfgIDUnique value for each alarm
acdAlarmCfgNumberThe unique number identifying this alarm. This number is assigned by the Sensor Control and cannot be modified. This alarm number is composed of four fields, the remote device ID, the module number, the instance number and the error number.

The format is DDDD.AA.BBBB.CC, where the parameters are as follows:

  • DDDD: Remote device ID (0-1500). For sensor: control local alarms, DDDD is 0.
  • AA: Module number (1-99)
  • BBBB: Instance number (0001-9999)
  • CC: Error number (01-99)

A module number is assigned for each alarm in the system.

acdAlarmCfgSeverityAccedian classifies alarms into four severity types. These types and their associated decimal codes are: informational (0), minor (1), major (2) and critical (3).
acdAlarmCfgServiceAffectingIndicates if the alarm is service affecting or not. This value depends on the utilization of the unit. For instance, in an application where monitoring of the traffic is mandatory, a link down event on the monitor port will be service affecting.
acdAlarmCfgDescDescribes the alarm in a readable way, as an example: +5Vdc Power supply fail.
acdAlarmStatusLastChangeTime of the last change for this alarm. A value of zero means that nothing happened to this alarm since the last reboot.
acdAlarmCfgExtNumberThe unique number identifying this alarm. This number is assigned by the Sensor Control and cannot be modified. This alarm number is composed of four fields, the remote device ID, the module number, the instance number and the error number.
