Setting Up the Legacy Orchestrator Primary Site for Standby Operations

Prev Next

This article contains the procedures required to set up the Legacy Orchestrator primary site to prepare it for standby operations.

Procedure Requirements

A. Procedures in this section require access to the Legacy Orchestrator primary site through its web user interface. To execute these procedures, you must know the account credentials with the admin role to log in to the web interface.

B. Verify and ensure that the /home/skylight/backups directory has been created and configured on the Legacy Orchestrator secondary site.

Log in to the Legacy Orchestrator Web Interface on the Primary Site

  1. Open a web browser and use the following information to log in to the Legacy Orchestrator web interface:

    • URL: https://<primary-site-ip>/businessweb/Login.html
(you must replace <primary-site-ip> with the IP address of your primary site)
    • Username: admin (default)
    • Password: 2admin$admin (default)

Note: These are default credentials and should be changed in production.

  1. Check the Legacy Orchestrator version by clicking the logo (in the upper left corner of the page). Take note of the build number: you will need it in the next procedure (Setting Up the Legacy Orchestrator Secondary Site for Standby Operations).

Stay logged in on the Legacy Orchestrator web interface primary site. You need it for the next procedure.

Enable the Legacy Orchestrator Primary Site as the Collection Server

  1. Navigate to Collection > Server Configuration page in the Legacy Orchestrator web interface on the primary site.

  2. Check the checkbox that is labeled as follows:

Button_Refresh-Autorefresh.pngUse Crosswork Active Probing as default server for metrics collection

Enabling this setting on the primary site causes all managed elements to send their performance metrics data to the primary site.

  3. Select Apply to apply the change.

Enable the Legacy Orchestrator Primary Site as the SNMP Trap Receiver

  1. Navigate to Admin > SNMP page.

  2. Check the following checkbox:

Button_Refresh-Autorefresh.pngUse Crosswork Active Probing as default SNMP trap receiver

Enabling this setting on the primary site causes all SNMP trap events coming from managed elements to be sent to the primary site.

  3. Select Apply to apply the change.

Stay logged in on the Legacy Orchestrator web interface primary site. You need it for the next procedure.

Schedule Periodic Backups of the Legacy Orchestrator Primary Site

The Legacy Orchestrator primary site must be backed up regularly to the Legacy Orchestrator secondary site so that if the primary site fails, the secondary site has up-to-date information and can take over the primary site's functions.

This procedure assumes that you are still logged in to the Legacy Orchestrator web interface on the primary site.

  1. In the Admin > Backup tab, select the settings icon.

  2. Set the parameters as follows:

    Parameter Value
    Protocol SFTP
    User skylight
Password Password of the skylight user on the Legacy Orchestrator secondary site
Host IP address of the Legacy Orchestrator secondary site
    Port 22
    Directory /home/skylight/backups
    Frequency Every 15 minutes
  3. Select Apply to execute the changes.

This configures the primary site to create a backup of its data store every 15 minutes. After each 15-minute interval, the primary site will push the new backup in the /home/skylight/backups directory on the secondary site.

  4. Log out of Legacy Orchestrator web interface primary site by selecting the X (in the upper right corner of the page).
