Setting Up Credentials for Devices

Prev Next

Sensor Management can connect automatically to devices, such as Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Control and Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensors, using credentials. Credentials allow Sensor Management to log in on devices directly—no human operator intervention is required. A credential includes the user ID and password for a user account that must be available on one or more devices that Sensor Management will access. When you add a devices to the list of Managed Elements in Sensor Management, you must select a valid credential as a parameter for the device. This will allow Sensor Management to log in on the devices directly. The same credential can be used for many devices.

Note: When Sensor Management begins managing Assurance Sensors, the password policy assigned to a user—who is part of a credential used for device management within Sensor Management—will be unassigned. This removal does not affect other users on the devices themselves.

The Credentials page lists credentials that have already been defined and allows you to define additional credentials.

Note: Sensor Management manages several types of user accounts including:

Credential accounts (listed in the Devices â–¶ Credentials page). These accounts allow Sensor Management to access the elements it manages.

Sensor Management user accounts (listed in the Admin â–¶ Users page). These accounts give users access to the Sensor Management web interface.

To view the list of existing credentials

Select Devices â–¶ Credentials. The list of all credentials that have already been defined on Sensor Management is displayed.

To add a credential

  1. Click the Add Credential Button_New_Generic.png button (above top left corner of the list) to add a new credential, or double-click an existing entry to change the credential parameters.
The credential configuration section is displayed on the far right of the Credentials page.

The following table describes the parameters that must be set for a credential.

Credentials (Devices â–¶ Credentials)

Parameter Description
Credential name The name of the credential used for a certain group of devices. The credential includes the user ID and password for an administrator account present on all devices in the group. Sensor Management will be able to log in to any of the devices using this credential.

Typically, the credential name is the same as the user ID of the administrator account on the devices.

Type USERID_BASED: Only supported value. USERID_BASED means that the credential refers to a user account that is available on each of the devices to be accessed using this credential.
Username A user account with this ID must be available on all devices that Sensor Management will access using this credential. Sensor Management requires a user account with ADMIN-level privileges on the devices. If insufficient privileges are granted, Sensor Management will not be able to access the devices.

The default user account for all Assurance Sensors (GT, LT, LX and so on) is:

  • user ID: admin
  • password: admin
Password Password for the user account.

To delete a credential

  1. Select an entry in the Credentials list.

  2. Click the Remove credential  Button_Remove_Generic.png  button (above top left corner of the list).

  3. Click OK in the confirmation dialog to remove it from the list.
