Restoring the Configuration of a Device from Backup

  • PDF

Article summary

Skylight orchestrator maintains backup files of the configuration of individual Skylight devices. A configuration backup file contains the configuration of an individual device at a particular point in time.

This section explains how to restore the configuration of a device from a backup file.

Here are some examples of when you might restore a device's configuration from a backup file:

  • If an invalid configuration is applied to a device, you can use a previous backup to restore the device to an operational state.
  • If a device fails, you can locate a configuration backup for the failed device on Skylight orchestrator and apply the backup to a replacement device.

To restore the configuration of a Skylight device from a backup file

CAUTION: The following procedure explains how to restore the configuration of a device from a backup file. Restoring from a backup requires a reboot on the device. Rebooting a unit momentarily interrupts traffic and operation.

  1. Access the Devices ▶ Backup & Restore page.
The Backup & Restore page is displayed with a list of all managed devices.

  2. Search for a device as follows:
    a. Click the Edit filters button Edit filters button.png (above the list).
    The Search filters dialog opens.
    b. Enter values in one or more query fields. You can enter an asterisk as a wildcard character.
    c. Select the Apply button.
If any devices meet the search criteria, they are displayed in the list.

  3. To view the backup files available for a particular device, select the device in the list in the left pane. If backup files are available for the selected device, they are listed in the right pane.

  4. To restore the configuration of a Skylight device from a backup file:
    a. Select the backup file (in the right pane).
    b. To automatically activate the restored configuration and reboot the device after download of the backup file, check the Auto activate restore checkbox for the backup file that you would like to restore.
    c. To manually activate the restored configuration, uncheck the Auto activate restore checkbox. In this case, you must log in on the device and reboot it.
    d. Select the Restore backup Button_Restore_Backup.png button. You are prompted to confirm your decision to restore the device's configuration from a backup file.
    e. Select OK to confirm and apply your changes. If you checked the Auto activate restore checkbox, the device will reboot.
