How to Replace an SFP Compute or Module

Article summary

The following article explains how to replace a failed Sensor SFP or Sensor Module that is sending or reflecting live TWAMP measurement sessions.

Excluded from the process

IP configuration of new module based on discovery methods used, for example, IP agnostic mode where IP address of network device is used as discovery target, or IP config pre-staging using Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Module Dock.

To replace the module:

  1. Physically remove failed module and replace it with new one
  2. Get the MAC address of the new module from: Cisco Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Control Web UI ▶ Discovery ▶ Inventory ▶ select module by serial number (Base MAC).

    CAUTION: Do not add the discovered new module into the Remote Devices list.

  1. Copy and paste Base MAC value into Sensor Control Web UI ▶ Remote Devices ▶ Select device ▶ MAC Address, where the device is showing the old module (The module state will show as Connecting).

  1. Click Apply at the bottom of page. In Remote Devices ▶ Configuration. The module state will now show as Connected.
  2. View/record the VCE for the failed module, by navigating to Sensor Control Web UI ▶ Virtual Connection ▶ VCE, then clicking on the VCE name. It is important to note the VCE name and Remote Device name for later use.

  1. Delete VCE using Delete button at bottom of VCE Configuration page.
  2. Re-create VCE using same VCE name and Remote Device name recorded in step 5 above.
  3. Click Apply
  4. In the orchestrator Web UI, If the module was a TWAMP sender, you will need to restart the associated TWAMP session.


Note: If the module was a reflector this is not necessary.

  1. Check that the TWAMP sessions using this module are now operational.
