Article Summary

Overview

This article explains how to move a virtual machine (VM), of a site on Hot Standby Redundancy system, to another server.

Key Terms

The following key terms are used throughout this article:

  • Original site: Existing site that must be replaced, if moving to the new server is required.
  • Replaced site: New site that is used to replace the "original site".
  • Remaining site: The remaining virtual machine of the High availability (HA) system.

Procedure Requirements

Before starting the procedure for moving a virtual machine of a site on Hot Standby Redundancy system to another server, you must ensure that the following requirement is met:

  1. The user must know the account's credentials that can log in to the Appliance Monitor and the server of both sites.

Procedure Prerequisites

The following prerequisite must also be met before you start this procedure:

  1. The HA is running and there are no issues related to the HA feature.

Procedure Steps

To move virtual machine of a site on Hot Standby Redundancy system to another server

  1. Access the Appliance Monitor connection (port 2200) on the original site.

  2. Check HA status to know the latest active site by entering:
    redundancy show status

  3. Configure the current active site as the preferred site to ensure that there will be no loss to the latest database when HA starts again by entering:
    redundancy config preferred < site-a or site-b >

  4. Stop HA via the Appliance Monitor connection on the original site by entering:
    redundancy control stop

  5. Shut down the original site virtual machine; the virtual machine must be moved to an alternate server.

  6. Clone the original site virtual machine to another server.

Note: To start HA with the current license file, the MAC address of network cards on the replaced site virtual machine should be configured to have the same MAC address as on the original site virtual machine.

  1. Start the replaced site virtual machine.

  2. Ensure the configuration is as expected; the connection between the replaced site and the remaining site is connected and stable.

  3. Start HA again via the Appliance Monitor connection on the replaced site by entering:
    redundancy control start

Note: After completing this procedure, the original site virtual machine should be deleted to ensure that both the original site and replaced site virtual machines are online at the same time.
