Guidelines for Slow Site Connection

Prev Next

Scenario

One or more end users report experiencing slower-than-expected access to all applications (both within and outside the LAN).

Diagnosis

This section provides the essential information needed to diagnose the issue:

  • Question: Is the application actually slower for this site?

    • Answer: Check the Application Performance Dashboard to confirm.
  • Question: Does the slowdown occur for a specific application?

    • Answer: If yes, review Slow Application.
  • Question: Does the slowdown occur for a specific server?

    • Answer: If yes, review Slow Server.
  • Question: Have the client workstations been upgraded recently?

    • Answer: If yes, this may indicate a system-specific issue. Consider consulting the System Administrator for further details.
  • Question: Have you recently upgraded your network equipment?

    • Answer: If yes, the issue may be related to the router or switch configuration. An in-depth review of the PV dashboards may be necessary. Navigate to Monitoring â–¶ Performance Over Time Chart to investigate further.
  • Question: Do the Retransmission Rate and Retransmission Delay fluctuate?

    • Answer: If yes, this could indicate a congestion issue. Check the router's load and other related factors.

Notes and Additional Considerations

A general slowdown in a client zone could be caused by a critical service, such as DNS. Review the DNS Response Time to identify any potential issues.

To investigate further, examine the Monitoring â–¶ Bandwidth Chart for bandwidth variations and the number of TCP and UDP flows.

It’s possible that a QoS threshold has been exceeded, resulting in blocked new application requests. An indicator of this could be an increasing number of TCP RST packets. To confirm, navigate to the Analysis ▶ TCP Errors menu for deeper insights.
