Platform Monitor Probe Types

  • PDF

Article summary

Overview

The Platform Monitor provides real-time visibility by probing various hardware components on the board and monitoring multiple system resources. Probes are used to collect data from various sub-systems in order to determine the correct functional behavior of each sub-system. When a sub-system is out of spec, you will be alerted of system issues.

The Platform Monitor is available via CLI and standard network configuration/management protocols. Each probe has its own set of unique rules and data sets.

Probe Types

CPU Probe

The CPU probe collects the following data:

  • CPU usage in percentage
  • CPU load average percentage

Memory Probe

The Memory probe collects:

  • Memory usage in percentage

File System Probe

The File System probe collects the percentage of space that is used by the following mounted storage points:

  • /tmp
  • /etc/accedian
  • /etc/accedian/history

Chassis Fan Probe

The Chassis Fan probe collects the following data for each fan:

  • Fan ID
  • Status (Present / Not Present)
  • Speed (rpm)

Power Supply Unit Probe

The Power Supply Unit probe collects the following data for the two power supplies available in the device:

  • Voltage (Volts)
  • Fan speed (rpm)
  • Temperature (Celsius)
  • Power (Watt)
  • Current (Amp)

Temperature Probe

The Temperature probe collects the following data:

  • FPGA temperature (Celsius)
  • ASIC temperature (Celsius)
  • CPU temperature (Celsius)
  • PHY temperature (Celsius)
  • Fresh Air temperature (Celsius)
  • Hot Air temperature (Celsius)
  • PCB (ASIC - FPGA) temperature (Celsius)
  • PCB (CPU) temperature (Celsius)

Transceiver Probe

The Transceiver probe supports the following SFP transceiver types:

  • 1G SFP
  • 10G SFP+
  • 100G QSFP28

The Transceiver probe collects the following data:

ParameterDescription1G SFP10G SFP+100G QSFP28
Transceiver TypeType of the optical transceiver
Connector TypeType of the fiber connector required by the optical transceiver
WavelengthWavelength of the optical transceiver
EncodingCode for high speed serial encoding algorithm
Signaling RateNominal signaling rate
Transfer DistanceTransmission distance of the optical transceiver.
OptionsThe options implemented in the transceiver
Vendor NameName of the vendor
Vendor OUIThe vendor organizationally unique identifier field
Vendor PNThe vendor part number
Vendor RevThe vendor revision number
Vendor SNThe vendor serial number
Date CodeVendor’s manufacturing date code

The Transceiver probe collects the following real-time diagnostics data:

ParameterDescription1G SFP10G SFP+100G QSFP28
TemperatureThe temperature, in Celsius and Fahrenheit.
VoltageThe voltage, in Volts.
Bias currentThe magnitude of the laser bias power setting current, in milliamperes. The laser bias provides direct modulation of laser diodes and modulates currents.✓ Lane <1 - 4>
TX PowerThe laser transmit power, in milliwatts (mW) and decibels referred to 1.0 mW (dBm).✓ Lane <1 - 4>
RX PowerThe laser receiver power, in milliwatts (mW) and decibels referred to 1.0 mW (dBm).✓ Lane <1 - 4>
