Setting Up an SNMP Agent Configuration Job

Article Summary

You can use configuration jobs to set up managed element side of the SNMP connection between managed elements and Skylight orchestrator.

Skylight orchestrator must also be configured to receive SNMP messages from the elements that it manages. For an overview of how Skylight orchestrator manages alarm messaging by SNMP, see "Configuring Alarm Handling via SNMP".

Configuration Steps

Two configuration steps related to SNMP are available in the Configuration Job page:

  • SNMP agent - Enables an SNMP agent on a managed element. The SNMP agent will allow an element to send SNMP trap messages related to alarms and other events to Skylight orchestrator (and other systems if necessary). This section explains how to complete the SNMP agent step. See "Procedure for Setting Up the SNMP Agent" below.

  • SNMP trap receiver - Sets up the connection to the system(s) that will receive SNMP trap messages from the elements. By default, Skylight orchestrator is a trap receiver for all managed elements. See "Using Skylight orchestrator as Default SNMP Receiver for All Elements". However, if your organization has specific requirements, you can set up a configuration job to set up a trap receiver for managed elements. See "Setting Up an SNMP Trap Configuration Job".
