Article Summary

A Virtual Connection Endpoint (VCE) is an NFV-based interface that can be defined on the following Accedian devices:

  • Skylight elements (GT, GX, LX and LT models)
For detailed information about VCE parameters for a particular model of Skylight element, see the user guide or online help for that model.
  • Second generation modules (modules that are remote devices of a Skylight sensor: control)
For detailed information about VCE parameters on Skylight sensor: modules, see the

Skylight sensor: control User Guide or online help.

VCEs are required to generate NFV-based probe sessions on the Skylight orchestrator .

To set up a configuration job for a VCE

  1. Access the page Commission ▶ Jobs.

  2. To add a new configuration job, click the PLUS BUTTON.png button (above the list of existing jobs). You can also:

  • Copy a job by selecting it in the list and clicking the DUPLICATE BUTTON.png button.
  • Edit an existing job by double-clicking the job in the list.
The Job configuration dialog is displayed.
  1. Set all common configuration job settings, as described in "Creating Configuration Jobs in GUI Mode" and in "Creating Configuration Jobs Using Data Sets".

  2. Select Virtual Connection in the left pane. The Virtual Connection tab is displayed in the right pane.

  3. Complete all fields of the Virtual Connection tab as required. Note that the Virtual Connection tab includes three sub-tabs. For more information on parameters, see the table below this procedure.

  4. Use the Add PLUS BUTTON.png button or Duplicate DUPLICATE BUTTON.png button to add VCEs as required.

Note: When duplicating a row, always select the row to duplicate before clicking the Duplicate DUPLICATE BUTTON.png button.

  5. Click Apply, then click Close.

  6. Click the Refresh REFRESH BUTTON.png button to refresh the user interface.

VCE configuration

ParameterDescription
VCE nameA name that uniquely identifies the VCE on the Skylight element or Skylight sensor: module.
TP TypeSpecifies the type of VCE.

Possible values:

  • Customer - typically used for a C-VLAN
  • Operator - typically used for an S-VLAN
  • Tunnel - typically used for a T-VLAN
L3 domainThe IP domain configured for the VCE can operate at Layer 3 as well as Layer 2.

Possible values:

  • Checked - Enable Layer 3 domain for both virtual ports of the VCE (TP A and TP Z)
  • Unchecked - Disable both virtual ports
TPIDThe Tag Protocol Identifier. Specifies the type of VLAN-tagging used in the frames that will be handled by the VCE.

Possible values:

  • C -VLAN (0x8100)
  • S-VLAN (0x88A8)
  • T-VLAN (0x9100)
Frame typeSpecifies the type of frames that will be handled by the VCE.

Possible values:

  • untagged
  • vlan-tagged
  • all-to-one - All incoming traffic will be sent to one VLAN.
  • any
Relay actionSpecifies the action to be performed on incoming frames.

Possible values:

  • none: Do not perform any action
  • preserve: Keep the VLAN tag of tagged frames
  • tag: Add a VLAN tag to untagged frames
  • translate: Change the VLAN ID of tagged frames
  • untag: Remove the VLAN tag from tagged frames

IPv4

ParameterDescription
DHCPEnables (or disables) DHCP to obtain an IP address and gateway for the Skylight sensor: module automatically.

Allows the interface to act as a DHCP client and automatically obtain its IP address, DNS server and gateway settings from a DHCP server.

Use DHCP route infoEnables (or disables) the use of DHCP to assign routes to the VCE.
IP addressThe IP address to assign to the VCE.

Only used if DHCP is disabled (unchecked).

Network maskThe network mask associated with the IP address.
Default gatewayA default gateway address provides a shortcut for creating a default gateway through the route configuration. Only one default gateway can be set per Skylight sensor: control.

IPv6

ParameterDescription
IPv6 enableEnable or disable IPv6 on the interface.
IPv6 AddressStatic VCE IPv6 address, with prefix.
SubnetThe subnet to go with Address.
Default gatewayA default gateway address provides a shortcut for creating a default gateway through the IPv6 route configuration. Only one default gateway can be set per VCE.

TP A

ParameterDescription
TP ATP A is the incoming Terminal Point (TP) of the VCE. This field specifies how TP A will be connected:
  • disabled - TP A will not be used.
  • external - TP A will be connected to an external port.
  • internal - TP A will be connected to another VCE.
TP A PortSpecifies the port of the device to which TP A will be connected. You can click on the TP A Port field to view a list of all ports in the Skylight orchestrator inventory.

For Skylight sensor: modules (connected to a sensor: control), enter one of these values:

  • UNI
  • NNI
For Skylight elements, enter one of the ports that are available on the model that will be configured using this job. Typical names include:
  • PORT-1, PORT-2 and so on
  • LAG-1, LAG-2 and so on
  • AUX-1, AUX-2 and so on
TP A PCP MappingThe Class of Service mapping (of type PCP) to be used for TP A. Enter an appropriate value. Typical values include:
  • 8P0D-8P0D
  • 8P0D-7P1D
  • 8P0D-6P2D
  • 8P0D-5P3D
  • *PORT-1, *PORT-2 and so on
TP A L3Enables or disables the Layer 3 domain for TPA.
TP A VLAN IDSpecifies the VLAN ID associated with TP A.

TP Z

ParameterDescription
TP ZTP Z is the incoming Terminal Point (TP) of the VCE. This field specifies how TP Z will be connected:
  • disabled - TP Z will not be used.
  • external - TP Z will be connected to an external port.
  • internal - TP Z will be connected to another VCE.
TP Z PortThe port to which TP Z will be connected. You can click on the TP Z Port field to view a list of all ports in the Skylight orchestrator inventory.

For Skylight sensor: modules (connected to a sensor: control), enter one of these values:

  • UNI
  • NNI
