Managing sensor: agents through the UI

Overview

The sensor UI is a management tool for configuring both sensor: agents and their session configurations. Viewing the agents list can be found under the new top level section Sensors.

Terminology

NameDescription
Sensor AgentContainerized microservice test agent capable of performing active testing.
SessionAlso known as monitored object. This is the building block and lowest level of the data model. Sensors and third parties report session data at this raw level.

Prerequisites

In order to view, create, edit and delete agent and session configurations, the user must have the permission level of Admin or User.

Viewing Agents

To view agents:

  1. Navigate to the Sensors sidebar item.
  2. Select the Agent top tab.
    You will see a list of agents in a table.
  3. Select an agent.
    This will open a sidebar displaying the agent's details and allow you to view and edit its configuration.

The summary sidebar view will provide a list of attached sessions. The context menu allows you to generate a secret for authentication and deleting the agent.

Viewing Sessions

To view sessions:

  1. Select an Agent from the list.
    This opens the Summary view information in the sidebar where the list of Sessions can be found.

  1. Hover over a Session in the list to view a list of actions that can be performed, such as:

    • Edit configuration
    • Delete Session
    • View Monitored Object details
    • Run a Start or Stop command against the Session

Configuring Agents

To create a new configuration:

  1. Select the top right + icon button.
    This opens the sidebar in the creation state. Once submitted, the Agents list will update with the newly created configuration.

To edit an existing configuration:

  1. Select the agent in the table list.
  2. Select the Configuration tab to access the form.
  3. Click the check button to save and apply those changes.

Configuring Sessions

To create a new session:

  1. Select the + icon button from the Agent's summary tab.

  2. In the New session modal, select the Session type:

    • TWAMP-SL (stateless)
    • TWAMP-SF (stateful)
    • Throughput
    • Echo ICMP
    • Echo UDP
    • Transfer
    • Path trace

  3. Click Next: session configuration.

  4. Configure the parameters.
    Note: The parameters vary depending on the selected session type.

  5. Click .

To edit a session:

  1. Hover to select the session from the list in the Agent's sidebar.
  2. Click the pencil Pencil icon - resized.PNG icon.
