Article Summary

Devices that are managed by Skylight orchestrator can have their own inventory of devices.

The following types of Skylight devices can have their own inventory:

  • Skylight Element: When configured as an inventory tracker, a Skylight element has an inventory of other Skylight elements that it has discovered.
  • Skylight sensor: control: A Skylight sensor: control has an inventory of Skylight sensor: module and Skylight sensor: SFP compute modules.

After you have added a device (with an inventory of devices) to the Managed Element list in Skylight orchestrator, you can load its inventory into Skylight orchestrator. After this is done, you can view and manage the devices centrally in Skylight orchestrator.

Loading the Inventory of an Inventory Tracking Element

Loading the inventory of a Skylight element can be done manually or by a special configuration job called the Discovery Trigger:

  • This section explains how to load inventories manually.
  • For more information about the Discovery Trigger, see Setting Up the Discovery Trigger.

For the purpose of Plug & Go instant provisioning, certain Accedian Skylight elements can be configured as inventory tracking elements. Other Skylight elements are configured so that, when they are first installed, they can be discovered by an inventory tracking element and added to its inventory.

If an inventory tracking element is being managed by Skylight orchestrator, you can load its inventory of discovered devices manually into Skylight orchestrator as explained in this section.

To load the inventory of an inventory tracking Skylight Element

  1. Access the page Devices ▶ Managed Elements.

  2. Double-click a Skylight element that has an inventory of discovered elements. The Device configuration dialog for the Skylight element is displayed.

  3. Click the Load devices inventory Button_Load_Inventory.png button to load the devices that are in the inventory of this Skylight element to Skylight orchestrator. A dialog appears showing a list of devices that are in the inventory of the Skylight element.

  4. Select one or more devices to add to the Skylight orchestrator inventory.

  5. Click Add. This adds the Skylight elements to the Performance Elements list in the Device configuration dialog.

  6. Select all the elements (in the Performance Elements list) that you want to load into Skylight orchestrator in the Remote list and click Save. The saved Skylight elements are stored in Skylight orchestrator and the dialog closes automatically. The newly added Skylight elements are displayed in the Managed Elements list.

Note: If you close the Device configuration dialog without first clicking Save, the Skylight elements will not be added to the Skylight orchestrator inventory and will not appear in the Managed Elements list.

Loading the Inventory of a Skylight sensor: control

The inventory of a Skylight sensor: control consists of Skylight modules. When you load the inventory of a sensor: control, the Skylight modules appear in a list of Skylight sensor: modules associated with the Skylight sensor: control (rather than Skylight orchestrator's main list of Managed Elements).

Since Skylight sensor: modules do not have their own graphical user interface, it is not possible to log on to them from Skylight orchestrator.

To load the inventory of a Skylight sensor: control

  1. Access the page Devices ▶ Managed Elements.

  2. Locate the Skylight sensor: control whose inventory you want to load in the list of modules and SFPs.

  3. Double-click the row for the Skylight sensor: control. The Device configuration dialog is displayed showing the details of the sensor: control.

  4. Click the Load Device Inventory Button_Load_Inventory.png button on the toolbar to view the inventory of the Skylight sensor: control.

  5. Scan the list to determine which Skylight sensor: modules you want to add to Skylight orchestrator.

  6. If necessary, deselect any Skylight sensor: modules that you do not want to add.

  7. Click the Add button (at the bottom of the Device Inventory dialog).

  8. Click the Close button to close Device Inventory dialog. The selected devices have been added to the list of Modules and SFPs in the Device configuration dialog for the sensor: control.

  9. If necessary, deselect any devices that you do not want to save to the Skylight orchestrator data store.

  10. Click the Save button (at the bottom of the Device configuration dialog).

  11. Click the Close button to close Device configuration dialog.

Note: The Skylight sensor: modules have been saved to the Skylight orchestrator data store and appear in the list of Modules and SFPs (Devices ▶ Modules and SFPs).
