Devices that are managed by Legacy orchestrator can have their own inventory of devices.
The following types of Provider Connectivity Assurance devices can have their own inventory:
- Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor: When configured as an inventory tracker, an Assurance Sensor has an inventory of other Assurance Sensors that it has discovered.
- Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Control: An Assurance Sensor Control has an inventory of Assurance Sensor Module and Assurance Sensor SFP modules.
After you have added a device (with an inventory of devices) to the Managed Element list in Legacy orchestrator, you can load its inventory into Legacy orchestrator. After this is done, you can view and manage the devices centrally in Legacy orchestrator.
Loading the Inventory of an Inventory Tracking Element
Loading the inventory of an Assurance Sensor can be done manually or by a special configuration job called the Discovery Trigger:
- This section explains how to load inventories manually.
- For more information about the Discovery Trigger, see Setting Up the Discovery Trigger.
For the purpose of Plug & Go instant provisioning, certain Assurance Sensors can be configured as inventory tracking elements. Other Assurance Sensors are configured so that, when they are first installed, they can be discovered by an inventory tracking element and added to its inventory.
If an inventory tracking element is being managed by Legacy orchestrator, you can load its inventory of discovered devices manually into Legacy orchestrator as explained in this section.
To load the inventory of an inventory tracking Assurance Sensor
Access the page Devices ▶ Managed Elements.
Double-click an Assurance Sensor that has an inventory of discovered elements. The Device configuration dialog for the Assurance Sensor is displayed.
Click the Load devices inventory button to load the devices that are in the inventory of this Assurance Sensor to Legacy orchestrator. A dialog appears showing a list of devices that are in the inventory of the Assurance Sensor.
Select one or more devices to add to the Legacy orchestrator inventory.
Click Add. This adds the Assurance Sensors to the Performance Elements list in the Device configuration dialog.
Select all the Assurance Sensors (in the Performance Elements list) that you want to load into Legacy orchestrator in the Remote list and click Save. The saved Assurance Sensors are stored in Legacy orchestrator and the dialog closes automatically. The newly added Assurance Sensors are displayed in the Managed Elements list.
Note: If you close the Device configuration dialog without first clicking Save, the Assurance Sensors will not be added to the Legacy orchestrator inventory and will not appear in the Managed Elements list.
Loading the Inventory of a Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Control
The inventory of an Assurance Sensor control consists of Assurance Sensor Modules. When you load the inventory of a sensor: control, the Assurance Sensor Modules appear in a list of Assurance Sensor Modules associated with the Assurance Sensor Control (rather than Legacy orchestrator's main list of Managed Elements).
Since Assurance Sensor Modules do not have their own graphical user interface, it is not possible to log on to them from Legacy orchestrator.
To load the inventory of an Assurance Sensor Control
Access the page Devices ▶ Managed Elements.
Locate the Assurance Sensor Control whose inventory you want to load in the list of modules and SFPs.
Double-click the row for the Assurance Sensor Control. The Device configuration dialog is displayed showing the details of the sensor: control.
Click the Load Device Inventory button on the toolbar to view the inventory of the Assurance Sensor Control.
Scan the list to determine which Assurance Sensor Modules you want to add to Legacy orchestrator.
If necessary, deselect any Assurance Sensor Modules that you do not want to add.
Click the Add button (at the bottom of the Device Inventory dialog).
Click the Close button to close Device Inventory dialog. The selected devices have been added to the list of Modules and SFPs in the Device configuration dialog for the sensor: control.
If necessary, deselect any devices that you do not want to save to the Legacy orchestrator data store.
Click the Save button (at the bottom of the Device configuration dialog).
Click the Close button to close Device configuration dialog.
Note: The Assurance Sensor Modules have been saved to the Legacy orchestrator data store and appear in the list of Modules and SFPs (Devices ▶ Modules and SFPs).
