Article summary

This article explains how to configure the management interface of the appliance to establish initial network connectivity. The procedures in this section guide you through these tasks:

  • Editing the management Interface
  • Editing the Hostname
  • Setting the Time Zone
  • Configuring the NTP Client
  • Setting the Date and Time
  • Setting the DNS Servers
  • Adding an Interface
  • Changing the Default Console Password.

The procedures assume you have already accessed the console of the Skylight orchestrator appliance. You can access the console in various ways:

  • For a VMware virtual appliance: Use the Console tab in the vSphere Client application. See VMware Virtual Machine Installation and Connectivity.
  • For a KVM virtual appliance: Use the virtual shell console. See KVM Virtual Machine Installation and Connectivity.
  • When you have network connectivity:
  • Open an SSH session to the IP address of the appliance on port 2200
The console is protected by a username/password. The default username and password are: Username: visionems Password: visionems

The appliance is shipped with one network interface enabled. The interface is defined with these default parameters:

  • Interface name: eth0
  • Interface Type: Standard
  • Interface Port: MGMT
  • IP Address: 169.254.1.1
  • Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0

Additional interfaces can also be configured for virtual appliances.

You can configure additional interfaces for a VMware virtual appliance as follows:

  • To add a standard interface, you add network adapters to the virtual machine configuration. Up to eight network adapters are supported. See Adding Network Adapters to Support Additional Ports/Interfaces.
  • To create a tagged interface, you must enable support for VLAN tagged interfaces on the virtual switch of the ESXi host. See VMware documentation for instructions on how to configure a virtual switch to support VLAN tags.

You can configure additional interfaces for a KVM virtual appliance as follows:

  • The number of interfaces assigned to the KVM guest (Orchestrator_Core) is determined by the XML configuration file. You can add additional interface statements to the XML file, which allows you to configure up to eight interfaces.
