Disabling the Support Account

  • PDF

Article summary

This procedure explains how to disable the emergency support account. This account is meant to be used by Accedian Technical Support if the visionems account password is lost.

CAUTION: Disabling the support account will limit the ability of the Accedian Technical Support to provide assistance. If the visionems account is locked or inaccessible, the appliance must be recovered via the RS232 console interface and will involve application downtime.

Procedure Requirements

  1. This procedure must be executed from the appliance console.
  2. This procedure must be executed as the visionems user. To execute this procedure, you must know the account’s credentials.

Note: The support account is subject to the same max-retries and lockout policy as the visionems user.

Procedure Steps

  1. Log in to the appliance console as the visionems user.

  2. At the Skylight prompt, enter: shell
You are brought to the appliance’s OS-level shell.

  3. Enter the user ID and password for the visionems user.

  4. Enter: sudo bash

  5. Enter the visionems password.

  6. Enter: passwd -l support
    This locks the support account.

Note: The support account can be unlocked by entering: passwd -u support.
