Article Summary

You have a choice when it comes to selecting devices and setting the parameters for a configuration job: you can do it interactively or you can use data sets.

The procedure in this section explains how to create a configuration job that will be applied to a predefined list of devices: an ME reference data set. It also explains how to use a data set to set the parameters for the job.

Before you can perform this procedure, the data sets that you need must already be available in Skylight orchestrator. You can create data sets or you can use data sets that have already been defined. For more information about data sets and how to define them, see "About Datasets and CLI Sets".

To create a configuration job that uses data sets

  1. Access the page Commission ▶ Jobs.

  2. Click the Button_New_Generic.png button (above the list) to add a new configuration job. You can also:

    • Copy a job by selecting it in the list and clicking the Button_Duplicate.png button.
    • Edit an existing job by double-clicking the job in the list.

The Job configuration dialog is displayed.

  1. Check the ME reference data set enabled box. This enables the use of a predefined list of devices (an ME reference data set). The configuration job will be applied to the devices in the data set.

  2. Select a data set using the ME reference data set drop-down list.

  3. Check the configuration steps (the list on the left side of the page) that you want to include in this job.

  4. If necessary, change the order of the configuration steps by dragging and dropping them into different positions in the list. The steps will be executed in the order they appear in the list. This is important if certain steps are prerequisites for other steps. For example, a Layer 2 filter (the L2 filter step) must be created before it can be used in a policy (the Policies step).

  5. In the tab for each configuration step that you select, you must set values for the parameters. You can do so in either of two ways:

    • GUI mode - Set the parameters directly in the Job configuration page.
    • Data set mode - Set up the step in the Data set section as follows:
      • Check the box to enable use of a data set for the step.
      • Select a step data set from the drop-down list. A data set file for the step must have been previously prepared and imported.

For more information about a particular configuration step, locate the relevant section for that step in "Configuration Jobs".

  6. Click Apply, then click Close.
