A configuration step dataset file contains the information required to execute a configuration step (task) on devices.
A configuration step dataset is always associated with a particular ME Reference file. The ME Reference file lists the devices to configure. The configuration step dataset says how to configure each device. See "About ME Reference Datasets (Device Datasets)".
You can define a dataset for any of the standard configuration steps listed in the
Configuration Job page. See "Standard Configuration Steps".
For example, step dataset files, see "Examples of Configuration Step Datasets".
Format of a Configuration Step Dataset
The first line of a configuration step dataset file defines the format for the rest of the lines in the file. It consists of:
NEID
Comma-separated list of parameters required for the configuration step
The remaining lines in the file provide values for the parameters listed in the first line of the file.
Here is an example of a configuration step dataset:
Specifying NEID values in a Configuration Step Dataset
The NEID values in a configuration step dataset file refer to the NEIDs defined in the associated ME Reference dataset. The NEIDs form the link between the two dataset files. They allow you to specify which configuration steps should be performed on which devices.
In a configuration dataset, the NEID value is always enclosed in square brackets and can be specified in any of these ways:
- NEID of a single device. For example: [1]
- Range of NEIDs. For example: [1-3]
- A list of individual NEIDs separated by semi-colons. For example: [2;3;4]
- Several NEID ranges separated by semi-colons. For example: [1-10;15-20]
- All devices in the associated ME Reference dataset: [*]
Creating a Configuration Step Dataset File
You may want to use a dataset file for a configuration step, rather than enter values in the Configuration Job page. Dataset files are useful when want to define different values for certain parameters on different devices. For example, you may want to set different IP addresses on each device.
You can view the parameters required for the standard configuration steps on the Configuration Job page. From there, you can also display the parameters in a format that you can copy and paste into a text file. If you want to use a dataset file to define a configuration step, this is an easy way to get the list of parameters.
To create a configuration step dataset file
Access the page Commission ▶ Jobs.
Click the Add Job profile button. The Job configuration dialog is displayed.
Check the configuration step that you would like to export in order to create a dataset file.
Click the export icon next to the checkbox for the configuration step.
Copy the exported text, paste it into a text editor and save the file.
The file you just saved is your configuration step dataset file. While you are in the text editor, you can insert additional lines for individual devices or for groups of devices as explained in "Specifying NEID values in a Configuration Step Dataset".
After saving your dataset file, you must import it into Legacy orchestrator as explained in "Importing and Editing Datasets"
