ping

ping - send ICMP ECHO_REQUEST to network hosts

Description:

Ping sends ICMP(v4 or v6) ECHO_REQUESTs to a network host which will send back and ECHO_RESPONSE to test the path between the two hosts.

Usage:
ping [OPTIONS] HOST

Options:

Option Description
-4, -6 Force IP or IPv6 name resolution.
-c CNT Send only CNT pings.
-s SIZE Send SIZE data bytes in packets (default: 56).
-I IFACE/IP Use interface or IP address as source.
-W SEC Seconds to wait for the first response (default: 10) (after all -c CNT packets are sent).
-w SEC Seconds until ping exits (default: infinite) (can exit earlier with -c CNT).
-q Quiet mode: Only displays output at start and when finished.

ping6

ping6 - send ICMP ECHO_REQUEST to network hosts (IPv6)
Description:

ping6 is the IPv6 version of ping, it sends ICMPv6 ECHO_REQUESTs to a network host which will send back and ECHO_RESPONSE to test the path between the two hosts.

Usage:

ping6 [OPTIONS] HOST

Options:

Option Description
-c CNT Send only CNT pings.
-s SIZE Send SIZE data bytes in packets (default: 56).
-I IFACE/IP Use interface or IP address as source.
-W SEC Seconds to wait for the first response (default: 10) (after all -c CNT packets are sent).
-w SEC Seconds until ping exits (default: infinite) (can exit earlier with -c CNT).
-q Quiet mode: Only displays output at start and when finished.
