About the Metrics Collection Module

Collection is an optional module of Skylight orchestrator. It centralizes the collection of performance monitoring data from managed devices and transfers the data to a system used to evaluate the data. Collection provides near real-time statistics with a granularity as fine as one second.

In order to optimize network bandwidth and minimize CPU and data-caching requirements, Collection establishes a permanent data stream between devices (with a Metrics Collection agent) and Skylight orchestrator.

Streaming of metrics collection data has the following advantages:

• Provides immediate access to available data
• Eliminates the overhead of legacy SNMP polling
• Streamlines the CPU and memory profiles of the device
• Streamlines the CPU profile of the Skylight orchestrator server.
