About ME Reference Datasets (Device Datasets)

  • PDF

Article summary

An ME Reference dataset is a CSV file that defines a list of devices on which a configuration job should be run.

If you want to prepare a configuration job in dataset mode, you must prepare an ME Reference file and one or more configuration step dataset files.

The Discovery Trigger also requires an ME Reference file. For more information, see "Commissioning - Discovery Trigger".

ME Reference Examples

Here is an example of an ME Reference file:

Example ME Reference Dataset: List six devices on which a configuration job will run (for release 23.04 and prior)

NEID,SYSNAME,SERIAL,MGMTIPADDRESS,MODEL
1,PLM-JF1,C037-0185,,AEN-1000-GE
2,PLM-JF2,C037-0189,,AEN-1000-GE
3,JFM-collector,G178-1129,,AEN-1000-GE
4,S003_0060,S003-0060,,AMN-1000-TE
5,G206_0020,G206-0020,,AEN-1000-GE
6,VM-2-1,G082-2850,,AMN-1000-TE

Example ME Reference Dataset: List six devices on which a configuration job will run (for release 23.12 and later)

NEID,SYSNAME,SERIAL,MGMTIPADDRESS,MODEL,FIRMWARE,PARENTIPADDRESS
1,PLM-JF1,C037-0185,,AEN-1000-GE
2,G206_0020,G206_0020,,AEN-1000-GE
3,S003_0060,S003_0060,,AMN-1000-TE

ME Reference Format

The first line in an ME Reference file is always:
NEID,SYSNAME,SERIAL,MGMTIPADDRESS,MODEL

Note: From release 23.12 and later, the first line in an ME Reference file is always:
NEID,SYSNAME,SERIAL,MGMTIPADDRESS,MODEL,FIRMWARE,PARENTIPADDRESS

The first line defines the format for the rest of the lines in the file. It contains the names of five properties that identify the devices listed in the file:

  • NEID: A NEID is a Network Element ID (ID of a device to be configured). The NEIDs are defined in the ME reference file and are referenced in the step dataset file that specifies how the devices should be configured. NEIDs are numbers greater than zero. Typical NEID values are: 1, 2, 3...
  • SYSNAME: The name of the device
  • SERIAL: The serial number of the device
  • MODEL: The model of the device. Typical values include:
    • AMN-1000-TE
    • AEN-1000-GE
    • AMO-10000-NE
  • MGMTIPADDRESS: An IP address or an IP address subnet. The value for this property must be in one of these formats:
    • 192.168.106.176 (an IPv4 address)
    • 192.168.108.1/24 (an IPv4 address with subnet expressed in CIDR notation: forward slash [/] followed by a value from 1 to 32)
    • 2001:dc4::100 (an IPv6 address )
  • FIRMWARE: The active firmware of the remote-device. Typical values include:
    • rATB_PMON_20.11_11269
    • rAAR_PMTG_20.11_4025
  • PARENTIPADDRESS: The parent IP address. There are two cases:
    • If column PARENTIPADDRESS is NOT specified: the first Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Control which sees Provider Connectivity Assurance Sensor Modules will add these modules.
    • If column PARENTIPADDRESS is specified: based on the parent IP address is set to determine the Assurance Sensor Control and add Assurance Sensor Modules to this Assurance Sensor Control.

After the initial line, the ME Reference file contains a line for each of the devices on which the configuration job will be performed. Note the following points about how to define a device:

  • The NEID is required for each device.
  • After the NEID, at least one of the other four values (SYSNAME, SERIAL, MGMTIPADDRESS, MODEL) must be included. If a value is not included, a comma must be inserted to show that the value is missing. For example, if the SYSNAME is missing, the line would look like this: 1,,C037-0185,AEN-1000-GE
  • Each line in the ME reference dataset must match only one device. For example, if several devices have the same value for the MGMTIPADDRESS, another parameter must be used to distinguish among the device (for example, the SYSNAME).
  • For a particular NEID, all values provided(SYSNAME,SERIAL,MGMTIPADDRESS,MODEL) must refer to the same device.
